| AFRICAN INICIATIVE WOMEN’S GROUP
IN RUSSIA
An Angolan Justina de Almeida Braganca was
recently elected as the Chairperson of the Group of wives of
African diplomats in the Russian Federation with ranks below
Ambassador.
Justina
de Almeida Braganca, who is dual-hatted as the Executive Secretary
of Russia and CIS office of the Organization of Angolan Women
(OMA), succeeded a Burundian Speciose Simbashira in the position.
She served earlier as the Deputy Chairperson of the Group.
Justina de Almeida Braganca holds a Master Degree in Law from
Moscow State Open University, and is the second representative
of Angola in the position. In 2005 Maria Antonia Gomes Cardoso
served as the Chairperson of the Group.
The new Chairperson says the Group is a social organization,
which main objectives are to strengthen friendship among African
women residing in Russia and promote African culture in the
East-European state.
The Group is going to organize social and cultural events on
the occasion of the International Women’s Day on March 8, the
Day of Africa on May 25 and the Day of African Women on July
31 this year, as well as hold working meetings with women’s
and charitable organizations of Russia.
Yet another mainstream of the Group’s activities under Angolan
lawyer Justina de Almeida Braganca will be the confirmation
of Group’s solidarity with Russian children with African roots,
and the attempt to get an insight into the needs of the African
student community in Russia, particularly females.
